‹Programming› 2018
Mon 9 - Thu 12 April 2018 Nice, France
Tue 10 Apr 2018 17:30 - 18:00 at Baie des Anges A - Session 4

We present Nezt – a live programming environment inspired by spreadsheets, but with a more expressive computational model. In contrast to traditional spreadsheets, cells can contain other cells in a hierarchical fashion, and one can define custom functions and use them in formulas. Our goal is to match the accessibility, immediacy and ease of use of spreadsheets, while achieving broader applicability, especially in the areas of application prototyping and scientific computing. Design influences include Excel, Lisp, JetBrains MPS and Boxer. We are developing a prototype in Typescript. Features like collaborative real-time editing, version control, static analysis and automated testing will be gradually implemented. The ultimate goal is a powerful end-user programming environment without the accidental complexities of mainstream professional programming.
